Maiestas Domini

(Latin for Christ in Majesty) a type of image in medieval representations that shows the enthroned Christ frontally in a mandorla (or circle or quatrefoil) and surrounds him with the symbols of the Four Evangelists. Representations of the Maiestas Domini are among the most common motifs in cf. Gospel Books.
