Description
Andreas Vesalius: Anatomia - Deutsch

First published in 1543, Andreas Vesalius' (1514–1564) work De Humani Corporis Fabrica is considered the foundation of modern anatomy. For his groundbreaking findings on the human body summarized in this work, Vesalius broke with the taboos of his time and dissected human corpses, which he obtained through illegal means. Nevertheless, the resulting anatomical atlas quickly gained enormous popularity, not least because of its scientific illustrations. In 1551, the Nuremberg printer and publisher Julius Paul Fabricius published a German abridged version of the treatise by Jakob Baumann: Anatomia – Deutsch. It contains 39 full-page woodcuts with intriguing depictions of human anatomy after Vesalius. The German translation was an important milestone in the further distribution of the new empirical findings that were to change medicine.
