Description
Selected Masterpieces of Michelangelo

Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564) is undoubtedly one of the most famous and influential artists of the Italian High Renaissance. Among the most renowned works by the painter, sculptor, and architect are the David in Florence, the Tondo Doni, his frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, and the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. The single leaf collection Selected Masterpieces of Michelangelo brings together 36 masterful drawings by the Renaissance artist to form an impressive overview of his graphic work. These include studies for his paintings and sculptures as well as independent drawings. Together, they provide an intimate, deeper insight into the master's working methods, artistry and the creation of his exceptional art. The focus lies on the human body. In his drawings, Michelangelo traced its movements and the play of muscles, the shadows cast on the skin as well as human gestures and facial expressions. They are testimony to his brilliant perception, which turned even quick sketches into impressive works of art.
